The Legs Of Time

Legs, most of us are born with them

Some never think of how fortunate we are

When we are young we just expect them to do our bidding

As we grow old they creak, ache, and give us much pain

You and I, when we look back on our lives

Do we consider all the orbits they have carried us?

Are we pleased with that which we now see?

Friends, have we walked upon earths mountains?

Have we taken the time for our toe to touch the oceans?

If we could trace our steps backwards, would we?

Have we walked upon the backs of others

To get to the place from which today we see?

I pray that my legs can carry me to my last tick

A place where only our Lord knows and sees

Lord, I know how contrary these legs have been

On so much brimstone my feet have tread

But upon the wings of your Angels Lord

And the strength of your Holy Hands

You have always saved me from myself

Lord you have always strengthened my limbs

You have given me the time by your grace and love

The time Lord for a better reward than I could ever deserve.

Dirty Little Secrets

Just because we were young

Girl, I kept your secrets

Because both of our kids were young

I pray their minds will be free of your deceptions.

Secrets, O how much they can harm

Couples dirty little secrets

How many deaths have you caused?

Dirty little secrets, O how you mar the soul and heart.

Secrets, prognosticate the lies that now come

Why always the need to bury a truth?

Secrets, used to skirt life’s real issues

In the mirror, what is that looking back at you?

Do you even know what you are, dirty little secrets.

The human experience, we all keep some secrets

Sometimes to protect the heart of a friend

We all know it’s okay to lie, to deceive

I’ll just pretend I don’t know, your dirty little secrets.

I wish that perfect I could be

A disgrace is all I see

When I see the secrets inside of me

Lord I come to you on bent  knees

Please cleanse me of all, my dirty little secrets.
