(Poem) Friends

Why are friends such a hard thing to be

Isn’t trust it’s very foundation, its strength

Friendship is like an island in the sea of life

When your life is a wreck with sharks all around

Friends offer a safe island to lay your head

Friends protect you as your troubles abound

A true friend is one that is long in the teeth

One who has known you for many a moon

Yet still opens their door to the sound of your feet

Through the good, the bad and your ugly

They are still willing to stay by your side

Never a thief or sticking a knife in your back

Or seeking a chance to sleep with your bride

True friends you have known a long time

When you are cold, broke, and hungry

They will still welcome you inside

Brother, a true friend is a great thing to have

Better yet a true friend is a great thing to be
