(Humor/Dark Poem) In My Eyes (The Mirror)

In My Eyes (The Mirror)

In my bathroom mirror, I see but a grain of sand

How is it that one such as I could an ego possess

How could anyone look upon one such as I am

This old man, and entertain a single thought of lust

In my mirror I see my head shiny and balding

Hair now only tends to grow from my nose and ears

Hair from these strange places, yet not upon my head

Even with these old eyes I can see my belly swaying

This front porch hiding by belt loops and even my shoes

So many years of my life all I did was work like a dog

Army lightning strike tore up this body’s quality of life

Never anytime for any recreation or play, just work

The reflection in my bathrooms mirror do I laugh, or cry

I see my store-bought teeth, in their container a waiting

In my mirror I see all these things I wish I didn’t recognize

With my store-bought eyeballs a hanging on this old ugly face

Now in my shower I think of a real great entertaining thought

If I leave these store-bought glasses in the top drawer of my desk

For a moment this old mans flaws maybe I can wash down the drain

Head in the sand, if you can’t see them, maybe they went away

Now all things in my mirror are blurring, I can’t see for the fog

Young man in my mind but not in the passages of my heart

Thinking of my loved one’s I will soon be once again seeing

I lay here beneath the mirror waiting the last tick of the clock

Comfort of Soul I lay here upon my bathroom floor expiring

This old ugly man I wonder if the Lord will recognize who I am

What One Word Describes Your Life; The One You See In Your Mirror?

When it is just you, alone, with just your thoughts late at night, can we be honest even then? When we have no one to lie to, no one to impress, do we even know what the truth about our own self is? When we blend in all of the really good things that we did in our past life (time up to this point) along with all of the ignorant and cruel things that we did (even if our ignorance is a defense), how does the picture look to us when it (our life) is all shaken out? This blog is really about conversation, I want the few folks who do read this blog to think and to look inside ourselves and think about the really cool or nice things that we did but also the really shameful things that we allowed ourselves to do, the sins we have done that are unspeakable. I try to get folks to look at these issues  when it is just you, yourself, and your mirror (and hopefully private prayer time with Jesus). Personally I very much hope that your one word was better than mine.

In My Eyes (The Mirror)

In My Eyes (The Mirror)

In my bathroom mirror

I see but a grain of sand.

How is it that and ego I could have

How could anyone possibly look upon me

This old man, and entertain a thought of lust?

In my mirror I see my head a balding

Hair now only grows in the oddest of places

Out my ears and nose, but upon my head, not at all.

In my eyes I see my belly swaying

Created by to many sodas a drinking

Because of so many years, so over worked.

Leaving no time for recreation or play, just work.

In the reflection of the mirror

I see my store bought teeth

In their container waiting.

In my mirror I see all these things

With my store bought eyeballs

A hanging on my face.

Now in my shower I think of a real great plan

Just leave those glasses on the desk

Then this old man’s flaws will go away.

If you can’t see them they surely can’t be there

Now all things in my eyes are a blurring

Tonight I’ll be dancing the Texas two step

Jose Quervo Tequila is now my date every night.

Dirty Little Secrets

Just because we were young

Girl, I kept your secrets

Because both of our kids were young

I pray their minds will be free of your deceptions.

Secrets, O how much they can harm

Couples dirty little secrets

How many deaths have you caused?

Dirty little secrets, O how you mar the soul and heart.

Secrets, prognosticate the lies that now come

Why always the need to bury a truth?

Secrets, used to skirt life’s real issues

In the mirror, what is that looking back at you?

Do you even know what you are, dirty little secrets.

The human experience, we all keep some secrets

Sometimes to protect the heart of a friend

We all know it’s okay to lie, to deceive

I’ll just pretend I don’t know, your dirty little secrets.

I wish that perfect I could be

A disgrace is all I see

When I see the secrets inside of me

Lord I come to you on bent  knees

Please cleanse me of all, my dirty little secrets.
