Who Was Nathan The Prophet?

(THIS ARTICLE IS COURTESY OF CHABAD.ORG)

Nathan (c. 880-790 BCE1 ) was a prominent prophet during the reign of King David and King Solomon. According to tradition, Nathan studied in an elite academy of mystics2 under the tutelage of the prophet Samuel.3 Although no book in the Biblical Canon is associated with his name, the Talmud tells us that Nathan concluded the writing of the book of Samuel.4

Nathan Rebukes David

Nathan first gains fame in the Biblical account, in the heat of the great debacle of David and Batsheba. King David had cohabited with Bathsheba after observing her beauty from the palace rooftop and was severely reprimanded by G‑d for doing so.5

Nathan delivered G‑d’s rebuke by opening the conversation with a parallel. “There were two men,” said Nathan, “one rich and one poor. The rich man had very many sheep and cattle, and the poor man had nothing but one small ewe which he had bought. He cared for it, and it grew up [under his care] along with his children. It ate from his bread, drank from his cup, and slept in his bosom. It was a daughter to him.”

Nathan continued. “Then a guest came to the rich man. The wealthy host was too miserly to take any of his own sheep or cattle to prepare for the guest who had come to him. [Instead,] he took the poor man’s ewe and prepared it for the guest who had come to him.”

King David was outraged by the arrogance and impudence of the rich man, and declared, “As G‑d lives, the man who did this deserves to die! He shall pay fourfold for the ewe, since he did this and had no pity!”

By issuing a verdict in the case set before him, David had unwittingly set the rules for his own prosecution and conviction.6

Nathan responded and said, “You are the man! . . . Why have you treated G‑d’s word with contempt, doing evil in My sight? You cut down Uriah (Bathsheba’s husband) with a sword and took his wife as your wife! . . . I will raise evil against you from your own house . . . I will do this in the sight of Israel, in the open!”

When David recognized the scope of his sin, admitted his guilt and repented for his actions, Nathan conveyed G‑d’s message that He had accepted his atonement.7

Nathan was thus instrumental in restoring King David’s dignity (allowing him to “raise his head”) in the aftermath of this sin. Having been informed of G‑d’s forgiveness by Nathan, David remarked, “Instead of my beheading, you have raised my head.”8

Prophecy Regarding Building the Temple

When quiet finally reigned in the land of Israel, after King David subdued the enemies of Jews through many bloody battles, he sought the counsel of Nathan with respect to building a sanctuary for G‑d, a Holy Temple. Despite his initial nod, Nathan was informed by prophecy that King David was ineligible to erect the House of G‑d, which was to be a house of peace. King David, he was told,9 whose sword smote the enemies of the Jewish people, would be unsuitable to construct the Temple.10 Instead, his son, King Solomon will build the Temple.11

Through his prophetic vision, Nathan helped design the configuration of the Temple’s floorplan as well as develop the appropriate activities performed therein. The verse states:

“[King Hizkiyah] also stationed the Levites in G‑d’s Temple with cymbals, and harps and Iyres, as commanded by David, Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet, for this was the commandment of G‑d through his prophets.”12

The Appointment of King Solomon

As the reign of King David was winding down and David took ill, the race was on for a successor to the throne. David’s son, Adoniyahu put forward his candidacy and as the prospect of his nomination appeared to gain traction, a growing number of royal dignitaries declared him king.13

But David had already sworn to Bathsheba that her son Solomon would inherit the throne.14

Nathan proceeded to inform Bathsheba of the development and together they coordinated their appearance before the king.15 When David heard the news he swore, saying: “By the Living G‑d . . . I swore to you by G‑d, L‑rd of Israel: ‘Your son Solomon will reign after me and he will sit on my throne after me,’ and I will fulfill [my vow] today!”16

David then proceeded to have Solomon coronated in public view, by the agency of Nathan, Zadok the high priest, Benayahu ben Yehoyada and many other dignitaries.17

Nathan remained one of the closest confidants of King Solomon. The Midrash teaches that two honorary seats flanked the throne of King Solomon, one for Gad the Seer and the other for Nathan the prophet.18

In addition, the tragic slaughtering of 85 kohanim(priests) of the city of Nob (I Samuel 22:22) by the instruction of King Saul, was an inadvertent result of David’s actions. In lamentation, David stated, “I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he surely told Saul. I have caused the death of your clan.”

David assured her that he had been informed by the prophet of G‑d that the first son that would be born to her would inherit the throne.

A commentary attributed to Rabbi Yehuda Ha-Chassid (Pirushei Ha-Torah l’Rebi Yehudah Ha-Chassidhaftorahof parashat Chayei Sarah, cited in Chumash Otzar Ha-Rishonim) presents an alternative narrative. After Solomon was born, Nathan had informed David that Solomon would reign, which prompted David to seek qualified teachers to prepare Solomon for the position. When his mother, Bathsheba, protested saying that she feared that he would be slain by his older brothers such as Abashalom, Adoniyahu and Amnon, David swore that he would ensure his ascent to the throne. He then enlisted Nathan, Tzadok (the high priest), Benayahu ben Yehoyada (the chief commander of the military) to train Solomon in various fields, and an entire corps of guardians to provide physical protection for Solomon.

Personal Human Safety: Is There Such A Thing Here On Earth

Personal Human Safety: Is There Such A Thing Here On Earth

Safety is there really such a thing here in this world? I guess that it is true that safety just like beauty can be just in the eye of the beholder. Then again is the term safe actually dependent on the subject matter? There is the concept of physical safety, or safety for your financial wealth whether in your cash, stocks, or bonds. But tonight I am speaking mainly about the physical safety of yourself and your loved ones. For many thousands of years now millions of human beings have used different types of drugs to escape their physical reality. Sometimes people use these drugs whether God-given ones such as in plants and herbs or ones that are man-made in laboratory’s. So often people seek an inner peace or euphoria so that they can escape the living hell they face each day here on Earth. The hellish conditions we see on Earth are all man-made for the only true hell we have to fear is the one that separates us from God Himself after our deaths. Life without putting our Creator first is a life that we all should fear every second we breath for no ones next breath is guaranteed. Fear, if we are ignorant enough to not fear Hell itself then we are truly both ignorant and stupid. Earth, the place where the Devil and his tens of thousands of dark Angels roam freely is not a place where physical safety for any human exists.

Within the first few verses of the 5th chapter of the book of Job in the Bible you read about one of Job’s friends named Eliphaz who was trying to be wise in his speech about the torments Job was going through. Eliphaz spoke to Job in this manner when he said “for wrath kills the foolish man and envy slays the silly one. I have seen the foolish take root and I cursed his habitation. His foolish children are far from being safe and they are crushed in the gate and there is none to deliver them. For man is born unto trouble, as the flames fly upward (from Hell)”.

In the fourth chapter of the Book of Psalms Israel’s King David wrote, ” But know that the Lord has set apart him that is Godly for Himself: The Lord will hear when I call unto Him. Stand in awe and sin not: Commune with God in your heart upon your bed and be still. I will lay me down in peace and sleep: for you O Lord and you alone make me dwell in safety. Offer your sacrifices of righteousness and put your trust in the Lord.” The Apostle Paul when he was writing his letter to the Church in the third chapter of the Book of Philippians he wrote; ” My brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write these same things to you is not grievous to me, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs, beware of workers of evil, beware of the mutilations. Yes doubtless I count all things for loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all my Earthly things, and do count them as dung, that I may win Christ and be found in Him. Not having my own righteousness, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.”

Here in this twenty-first century A.D. it would be so nice if we in our own lives could truly live in physical safety. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if no one ever did any harm to themselves or to anyone else? What if there was no such thing as hatred, jealousy, ego’s or murder? We all know in our hearts and minds that this is not the current situation that we all live in today. Friends as long as the Devil, his Angels, and those ignorant enough to follow him roam the surface of the Earth, no one is safe, everyone is under attack, even if we are unaware of it.

Throughout the Scriptures we are told many times to walk our lives in meekness and humility. God tells us to put others before ourselves. We are told it is better to sit in the back of a congregation and to be brought forward than to be one that puts themselves in the front just so we can be moved to the back.  Ego my friends, pride and lust, these are spiritual and physical traps laid before all of us in today’s society. In this time we are all living in we have as a culture gone beyond being a me first generation of the 1980’s. Today we have degenerated into a culture of a ‘me only’ life style. For those poor people who believe that there is no such thing as a ‘here after’, that there is no such thing as God, I feel so sad for them. To think that this life is all there is and that this life is all that matters is so sad.

Take a moment and look around the world today, so many people are filled with hatred and so much blood is being spilled in wars and in our own streets. There is a term used a lot in the World Court called ethnic cleansing that is truly a world-wide disgrace. Often throughout world history this has been done toward people because of race issues and culture issues yet the worse of these are ones that are dictated by a religion, this shows the pure evil that is this religion. We all live in a world of sadness where thousands of people die everyday whether by their own hand or by the hand of a murderer or even by starvation for there is no such thing as physical safety today. Friends there is no place on this planet that is truly a safe haven from evil, there is no place for anyone to hide. Even at the Vatican in Rome Italy the Pope has built high thick walls and employees many guards and has many escape tunnels. We humans try to keep ourselves and our families and our Countries safe but there is no such a place. Folks, not until Jesus the Christ returns in what is called the Second Advent when He Himself and His Angels put an end to this current evil system of things will there be true safety but even then, only for those who stayed faithful to Him unto the end.

I am going to close tonight with the words of the Apostle Paul that he wrote in the Book of Philippians chapter 2 verses 10, 11, 14 and 15. “At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, the things in Heaven and the things on the Earth and the things under the Earth. And every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father. Do all things without complaining and disputing. That you may be blameless, the Sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse Nation among whom you will shine as lights in the world.” For it is a truth that safety can only be found in faith in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.”

When The Wisest Man Who Ever Lived: Was Just Plain Stupid

When The Wisest Man Who Ever Lived: Was Just Plain Stupid

If you are a person who believes the stories that are written in the Bible to be truthful, then we humans are in a world of poop. By what the Bible says and what Jewish history says then there once was a King in Israel called Solomon the son of King David. It is said that God granted the young King Solomon a wish and instead of Solomon asking for riches and long life he instead asked for the wisdom that he would need to rule over the House of Israel. This is when it is said that God granted him a level of wisdom beyond that of any human ever. If you are this young man and you absolutely believe in God, you are granted all of this wisdom, you become the wealthiest human that has ever lived, you should also be the happiest person that has ever lived, wouldn’t you? God has granted you everything on a silver, excuse me, a gold platter, God has even granted you the long life and riches you didn’t ask for. What more could one human being ask for? O, yes, he should have requested enough blood to be running through his veins to operate both of his heads.

God did warn Solomon about taking wives from other lands whom worshiped other “gods”. I believe the number quoted in Scripture was that in Solomon’s latter years he had 300 wives and 700 secondary wives. Many of these 300 wives were like “treaty” wives. These were daughters of other rulers from around the known world. You know how it is supposed to work, you marry one of my daughters so now we both know that we won’t attack the other, that we will now be allies. One of the issues in this type of system is the reality that these women would bring their customs and their “gods” into Solomon’s Castle. These women would and did turn Solomon’s heart away from the God he knew existed toward some of the “other gods” his favorite wives served. Simply put guys, the wisest human being (man) that has ever lived couldn’t control his horny human side. Friends, this is discouraging to say the least. If the wisest person who ever lived couldn’t control his sexual urges even when he had at least 1,000 women he could bed at any time he chose to, then what chance do us other poor blokes have of keeping it in our pants, or robes, and staying out of divorce court, a thousand times?

I am not going to lie to you, between my two marriages I was with several ladies, but not during my two marriages. Was I wrong in having sex outside of marriage, by Scripture, yes. Was I sinning, yes? Am I perfect, no, of course not. But, during my two marriages I have not once cheated, not even to the point of touching another woman at all. My first wife did not have a problem with spreading herself around, that marriage lasted less that two years. The young lady that I am married to now (19 yrs) has been faithful and true as I have been to her. For me I chose not to mess around on my first wife even though she showed me no such courtesy. I chose not to because I was taught that those actions was by faith and by love things a person would not/should not ever do. My current wife and I have never ever cheated on the other, for the same reasons, Scripture forbids me and because I love her and I know that me cheating would be a deal breaker that would crush her, and I refuse to treat her like that. These are the two reasons that I am wiser that the wisest man who has ever lived, well okay, on this one issue, maybe. The wisest man who has ever lived was a huge screw up, thank you Lord for your Grace because it is very obvious that we humans tend to have a major case of stupid going on.

(Religious Philosophy Poem) Pondering The Twilight

PONDERING THE TWILIGHT

When the air between our ears grows quite disturbed

Pondering the silence of nothingness can weigh so heavy

Tossing and turning we can fight the sweaty sheets each night

So sad, so many know nothing of the relief a simple prayer brings

One does not need be a King like David for our Lord to hear our words

Faith is the essence of being, just as love feeds the Soul and the heart

Love is possible only because of the life blood our heart gives to the Soul

Kindness given out these days seems only with evil intended underpinning

Can one lay down in deep peace if their own Soul knows nothing of peace

Remember, we do not have to be a King or Queen for our prayers to be heard

Do we delight in a God that also delights in our own happiness

Evil cannot sojourn with a Soul who refuses to let it have rest

All darkness will run from the light, if we faithfully rebuke it

Taunting lips and seductive eyes hide the tears that do not lie

Faith is what is important, not our bloodline, for God loves the poor

Let all bloodline’s of the Earth seek refuge in the One and Only Lord

Those that seek to do you ill shall have pure shame upon their faces

Always seek peace through prayer when our World will allow it to be so

For Christ Jesus blesses His Holy Israel as well as all of those who love Him

Pondering the twilight of our time, do we believe in Spiritual salvation and life

(Philosophy/Poem) I Saw An Angel Of The Lord And Lived

I Saw An Angel Of The Lord And Lived

This poem is derived from a writing of King David of Israel about one of his sins in regards to the counting of the people of Israel even though God told him not to do it. This Scripture is found in 1 Chronicles 21: 15-27.

O my Lord my God what evil I have done in your sight

You told me not to number, but yet I ordered it done

Nine plus months my Generals did gather the count

One point one million ready to draw the sword

Not counting the women and children they do guard

The message from God, an arrow through my soul

Three choices, to heavy for any one man to bare

Three days of pestilence upon God’s holy land

Seven years of famine upon the King and the land

Or, flee for three months before those that want my head

O Lord how greatly I Your servant have sinned

The pestilence I have chosen upon your people and land

My sin, caused the death of seventy thousand valiant men

O’ Lord You have opened my eyes, my ego You have crushed

The Lord’s Angel now I see, my fright now deep into my bones

Lord thank you for staying the hand of Your Angel

Thank you Lord for sparing Your Holy City, Jerusalem

For fifty shekels of silver, Oman’s threshing floor I did buy

Offering to you Lord, sweet fragrances to your Throne on high

Thank you Lord for staying Your Angel’s wrath from our head

By the gift of Your great mercy O Lord I’ll not disobey again

My eyes have seen one of Your Holy Angels my sweet Lord

By Your mercy O Lord, I and Your people You allowed us to live

Revelation Chapter 7

To me, I would expect for the Seventh Chapter to be about the Seventh Seal upon the Book in the hand of Jesus Christ in Heaven. Oddly enough, this Seventh Seal will be discussed first thing in Chapter number eight, not here in #7. Chapter number seven is broken down into two parts. Verses 1-8 is dedicated to the ‘Sanctified’ 144 thousand of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The second part of this chapter (verse 9 -17) is about the ascension of the Gentiles half way through the Great Tribulation.

It’s only 17 verses, it’s rather quick, do you understand what is going on here? Please take a moment to read this with me, then let us see what you think?

7:1-17 “And after these things (the opening of the 6th Seal and the events that followed) I saw 4 Angels standing on the four corners of the Earth, holding the 4 winds of the Earth, so that the wind would not blow on the Earth, nor on the Sea, nor on any tree.”

“And I saw another Angel ascending from the east, having the Seal of the Living God: And He cried with a loud voice to the 4 Angels, to whom it was given to damage the Earth and the Sea.”

“Saying, do not hurt the Earth, neither the Sea nor the trees, until we have sealed the Servants of God in their foreheads.”

“And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty-four thousand from all of the Tribes of the Children of Israel.”

At this point the Scriptures lay out exactly who this “special” 144,000 people are, they leave no doubt, no room for speculation. 12,000 virgin males from each of the 12 Tribes of Israel. This ‘special’ group of people are ones who will get to be in the constant presence of Jesus.

The second half of this chapter is about the “great multitude of gentiles.” For those of you who do not know the meaning of the word gentile, the closest definition that I know of would be, anyone who is not 100% Hebrew blood. Here in this article I am going hardcore fundamentals, so think about this please. From Adam to King David, a bloodline that did not step outside of the Twelve Tribes to ‘spread their seed’, not once! Today here in the States it would sound like coalfield inbreeding. Just think about the lineage and the timeline, Adam to David till now. We are talking 3,000 years just to get back to David. Think about this for a moment please, you are a person whose family bloodline hasn’t forked, ever, then your gene pool for which you can date/mate within is very narrow. So, some out of this group will decide to remain virgins each generation, maybe through faith, or maybe all your cousins are ugly. What I am getting at is, what is the chance that there are many ‘pure bloods’ left? So, if they are all gone now, what’s holding up Jesus from pulling that last Seal? If there are by chance some ‘pure blood’s from King David’s lineage’ just how long will it before there are none? How long until, time is up?

Now I would like to get back to the “Redeemed multitude of Gentiles” The Apostle John wrote “I beheld a great multitude, which no man could number, of all Nations, and Kindreds, and Peoples and Tongues, stood before the Throne, and before the Lamb, clothed in White Robes, with Palms in their hands.” The Apostle John wrote “And one of the Elders (one of the 24 that surround the Throne of God) said unto me, who are these who are arrayed in White Robes and where did they come from?”

“And I said to him, Sir, you know. And He said to me, these are they which came out of the Great Tribulation and have washed their Robes and have made them White in the Blood of the Lamb.”

“Therefore they are before the Throne of God and serve Him day and night in His Temple: and He that sits on the Throne shall be among them.”

“They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore. Neither shall the Sun light on them, nor any heat.”

“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the Throne will feed them and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: and God will wipe away the tears from their eyes.”

Please consider this comment from the Apostle Paul who wrote in First Corinthians 10: 32 “give no offence, neither to the Jews, the Gentiles, nor to the Church of God.” In 12:13 Paul wrote “For by one Spirit we are Baptized into one Body, whether we are slaves, or free, we have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” Friends it is not of the Spirit of God to share space with a Demon of hate. If hate is part of us, we have allowed it to be, God says that we have brothers and sisters who are made up of every nation and of every tongue. So, who are we to kill a brother just because they have a different accent, skin color, or live in a different Country? If anyone of us is racists, they endanger their own Souls. For who are we to hate our own brother without a cause, how do we expect God to look us in the eye and say, good job you old bloke? It seems that there are some who still abide by God’s rules and not our own.

V: 9) The Elder told John…”The Holy Fathers children that stood Redeemed before His Throne were people of every nation and every tongue.” Just when is it that we humans got the hormones to say our racism out trumps the will of God our Creator? If God says yes to a subject matter who are we to stand up in the middle of a Heavenly Convention and go no, no, no, no, no. I don’t want to have to be seated by a ‘Hispanic’ or even worse, one of them European countries that talk funny, and of course we can’t have no Jews or no Arabs, or any of those weird white folks up around New York City. Honestly, folks those of you who feel like this are burning your own bridges and your own britches.
