247 – Former President Lula wants to convene a new National Constituent Assembly if he can compete and win the presidential elections of 2018. The message was given after the visit of João Pedro Stédile, MST, and Rui Falcão, PT. The focus of this constituent would be the reform of the Brazilian political system, which, according to Lula, has rotted. Check below the report of the visit:
From the page lula.com.br –Former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva reaffirmed on Thursday (5) his intention to contest the presidential elections in October. “He warned that he will be a candidate for the final consequences, no matter what the cost,” said MST coordinator João Pedro Stédille after a visit to Lula in Curitiba. “He said: tell the Brazilian people that I am a candidate and that I will fight for it,” said Stédille.
Accompanied by the former president of the PT, Rui Falcão, the MST coordinator announced a calendar of popular mobilizations for liberation and in defense of Lula’s candidacy for the Planalto. Among the actions, it is planned to collect a petition addressed to the Supreme Court and the STJ for the freedom of the former president.
In addition to the petition, Rio de Janeiro hosts the Lula Livre Festival on 28 November, convened by musicians Chico Buarque and Gilberto Gil. The next day, caravans must leave the semi-arid region of the Northeast in the direction of Curitiba, where Lula is imprisoned.
Already on the 31st, eleven representatives of social movements from all over the country started a hunger strike in front of the STF to charge the Judiciary to repair the abuses of the lawsuit against Lula. On August 15, thousands will take to the streets for a march that will end with the delivery of the registration of the candidacy of the former president in the TSE.
During the visit, Lula also announced the intention to hold a constituent assembly if elected for a third term. “The solution in my government will be to call a Constituent Assembly,” Lula told his comrades.
Rui Falcão also highlighted the former president’s constant concern about the issue of national sovereignty. “He has warned of the fact that they are delivering our wealth, that the country is in liquidation,” Falcão reported, noting the increasing interference of the United States in the continent.
