CHICAGO – A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after shots were fired into her home early on Christmas.
At around 1:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the 3500 block of South Washtenaw Avenue on the report of a shooting.
Police said a 7-year-old girl was shot when a suspect fired into the Brighton Park home from the sidewalk. She was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
A man was also shot in the leg and is in stable condition.
Community activist Andrew Holmes spoke to the girl’s family. He said she was shot as the family was gathered around the table for Christmas.
Just a few houses down on the block, neighbor Ana Del Rio said she heard five gunshots.
“We heard the gunshots,” Del Rio said. “It was really, really close to home.”
Chicago police do not have anyone in custody. Area Central detectives are investigating.
