Do Brasil de Fato – The president of the Workers Party (PT) of São Bernardo do Campo, Luiz Marinho, said that society must express outrage at the arrest of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. This Thursday (29), he was in Curitiba to visit Lula, accompanied by the president of the Metallurgist Union of ABC, Wagner Santana.
Before the visit, Marinho and Santana were at the Free Lula Vigil, from where they took Christmas cards with messages dedicated to the former president, as a gift to Lula.
Former Minister of Labor and Employment and former Minister of Social Security during the Lula administration, Marinho said that the former president is being victim of an injustice that “tears the Constitution and contravenes legal precepts.”
“We have to have the capacity for indignation at injustice. Who does not like President Lula is in his right, but we must analyze the facts, and in this case there is a great injustice practiced against a man who led the fight against hunger, misery, which generated millions of jobs and, therefore, deserves to be respected, “he said.
According to Marinho, the current moment, after the election of Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) to the Presidency of the Republic, should serve to reevaluate strategies in the field of the left and build an agenda of struggles that can prevent setbacks to the rights of the working class.
“We anticipate a government that will make more serious the situation of the coup government that is directing Brazil at that moment, from persecution to the struggle of the social movements, of the working people,” he said.
The union also said that Lula’s campaign for freedom continues among the main mobilization guidelines for 2019. He expressed the need to strengthen popular support for Vigília Lula Livre, a permanent mobilization space in front of the Federal Police Superintendency of Curitiba, where the former president is held captive.
For Wagner Santana, there is a judicial persecution of Lula, who is being accused unjustly and “treated differently for all that he has done.” According to the metallurgist, defending Lula’s freedom, at the moment, is also to defend a society that retakes the principles of Justice.
“To fight for Lula Livre is to fight against what is set in the country: this type of intolerant and unjust society that we do not want. What we do not want for him, we do not want for all Brazilians and Brazilians, “he said.
