(A Horror Poem) A Second Chance

A Second Chance

We hear the rain upon our windows and the roof

The thunder cracks like it is the very voice of God

Lightning flash’s as the hairs on our back do rise

The water seeps beneath the doors as it comes inside

The electricity goes out as we are now left in the dark

The hissing of the snakes we hear as they curl on our bed

Glowing eyes of the lizards how they shine just outside

As the doors burst open, can we now wade the dark waters

No one knows that you are bait nor that you are drowning

You have no boat and you know that none will be coming

How easy will we slide into death as fangs now impale us

With a scream we awake, we see the sun, a second chance
