                                                 At its core,Kashmir is not a religious issue.Unfortunately, it is playing a vital peripheral role here. You see the history itself is quite complicated.Kashmir was under a Hindu ruler before partition with a Muslim majority population.Similarly, Junagarh(in Gujrat) had a Muslim ruler with a Hindu majority. Apparently,it acceded to Pakistan after independence despite the displeasure of majority Hindus. Therefore the situation of Kashmir was not entirely unique. Pm Nehru suggested plebiscite ,Jinnah refused(because two nation theory was a reality but may be not always for him) . Please understand Jinnah had set a precedent in this regard.You could not expect only India to be the one holding flag of Plebiscite and it did not believe in two nation theory.
