(Poem) Ghosts Of My Present

Each day of life that I open my eyes

I see my life for its good and its bad

To first see, I try to understand myself

The Ghosts within my heart and mind persists

To understand the things, acts, and events

They roam freely the interstates of my heart

Not just the nights when I fight them for sleep

Even when the sun is high, there are people and events

Within my heart and mind they are embossed upon my soul

The ghosts of my present, keep my heart and mind at risk

Some like Casper are dear and loving memories

Wishing I could once again hold them and kiss their cheek

To hug them tightly and let them know how much they’re missed

There are others like Casper’s three not so friendly Uncles

Wearing steel cleats as they walk across my pillow and heart

Raking up the memories of all the hurts and blood spilled

Some of which my actions from ignorance no doubt I caused

No way now to correct any of my sins in my past

Nor the hurts I have caused within the life I lived

These ghosts that haunt my present day and night

Whether they be good or bad they are part of life

Until our very last breath is drawn and gone

Ghosts that haunt us, with them we all must sleep
