Government And Greed – The Slow Death Of America

Friends, as we all know we have a lot of problems that we the people must address here in our country, that is if we wish to continue to have a country. Most of the problems we are not addressing at all which tends to make these problems worse not better. I am going to try to address some of these problems here tonight and I would like your feedback on these issues if you have the time to do so okay. Poverty is the first thing on my agenda tonight. I know that almost no issue has only one side to it or one cause of it and certainly poverty is a worldwide curse which afflicts at least a couple billion people worldwide, but I am only going to try to address the American problem here tonight.

A lot of our countries problems are generated because of poverty, what I am saying is that if we had no poverty here in our country a lot of other issues would for the most part disappear. The federal government says that the official unemployment rate is hanging out at about 7%, but most everyone I would think knows that this is simply a government generated farce. If you dig into the real numbers you find that the long term unemployed (the people who have been unemployed longer than their unemployment checks) are not counted. Another outlier in the government’s figures is that if a person is able to find a part time job the government counts them as being employed. These people are the folks usually referred to as the real unemployed and the underemployed. By what I hear from many of the “talking heads” on the radio I believe that the real unemployed/underemployed figure should be at least 17-18%. Of course some markets are better than others, some places may be 5% while others are 30%. Some people say that if you are in one of the bad areas just move to a better market. There is a problem with that line of thought though, what are these people suppose to use to move on, their good looks? Gas, rent, cars, deposits, these are things that most people in these situations simply do not have. As most everyone knows poverty causes many other problems besides major depression. People are going to want a roof over their head if they have any possibility to obtain it, somehow people want to be able to pay their rent and utilities. Food, now that is an issue for humans even if they live under a bridge. People need jobs that will at least pay the minimum bills such as rent, utilities, and food. For most good jobs, those that haven’t already left the country, people need real job skill training.

For about 30 years I was a commercial cross country driver, in this job you get to see the reality people around our country are having to live in that you would never get to see if you were working in an office or a factory.  Out here you see 60+ year old women with obvious physical ailments working at fast food joints, jobs that the politicians seem to think only high school kids are doing. You see one armed men working at guard gates checking in trucks and cleaning toilets in truck stops. Adults are doing these type jobs because it is all they can get and a lot of these jobs are just part time so that the companies (just like at your local Wal-Mart) won’t have to pay any benefits. You know, people aren’t doing jobs like these because it is their life long ambition to work and live like this. Also, these type jobs are almost always paying at or very near the minimum wage. I know some folks will say that I am lying about seeing adults with these physical problems working like this because they could just file for social security and live on that. Have you ever tried to collect social security? If you are very lucky you will get your turn down notice within 12 months, then you can go get an attorney (they will work pro-bono) and refile, hopefully within 6-9 months you will get your next turn down. You and your attorney can then go before a judge (who is paid by social security), hopefully it will only take you about three months to see the judge then usually another couple of months before you get his decision. You see the problem most everyone has is that they don’t have anyway to survive while all this is going on, no food, no housing, nothing. If you are in that spot, what are you suppose to do? What would you do if it was you? Hopefully you have a wealthy family that will be willing to keep you and your family alive while you are trying to get your disability checks, very few are that fortunate. Some folks will say, well, they could get government housing. Even if you are lucky enough to live in a low crime area like where we live there is this thing called, a waiting list, I checked here, the waiting list is 42 months.

People all over our country are hurting badly even though the media doesn’t say much about it when one of their beloved far left democrats is setting in the White House, and no, I am not a republican. It is very common to see a three bedroom apartment being rented by three adults, or maybe three couples, this is not because people wish to live communal, it is so they have three paychecks to help split the rent (remember the comedy program Three’s Company)? So often I see adults in different fast food uniforms walking to their jobs. It’s not for the exercise for most folks, it’s because they can’t afford a car. With minimum wage jobs you have no extra money to spend on anything, cars, gas, insurance, or food and rent. If you are lucky enough to be in a position where you think I am blowing smoke up your behind, look in your local news paper for the cost of rent, now take a minimum wage paycheck after taxes and see how well you are going to be able to live, folks, it isn’t pretty.

As you travel around the country and you go through the cities you see things that will make you sick at heart. You see all the poverty and the slums, the graffiti, the trash. You also see all the bars on business windows and on the homes, you see homeless people wondering the streets along with the working girls and guys with so many strung out on one habit or another. You see people congregating under bridges as well as boarded up burnt out homes where the lucky homeless can find shelter as long as they are not one of the many crack houses. You know, many in politics want to get away from having any blame for any of our peoples problems, but I believe that out government is the biggest problem that all of us Americans have. I am setting here in our living room watching the Presidents State of the Union Address, so much BS on both sides of the isle. We here in America are a ship without a rudder, I wish we as a country had actual leaders who cared about the Constitution and our freedom more than their bank accounts. I guess I’m just dreaming.

Terrapin Girl

There once was a little Terrapin girl, she was born smiling, burping, and farting. With her little legs she did stumble as she was learning to waddle. Many times she fell on her bum, she was in such a hurry to grow up she thought it to be no fun.

At an early age she was bright and witty, much smarter than all the rugrats in her fair city. By the age of three she had taught herself how to read. If not for the laws saying she had to attend, of school she would have no need. By first grade she was already smarter than most of the old farts and bitties.

A young lady she was, a young lady she is, this Angel was in the state of Ozark when I met her, to my heart she has been like a fresh morning sun. I brought her to the east to be near her pappy, but these hills of the Smokies have made her allergies do nothing but run.

This bright little woman is still a spring breeze to my heart. As age dims my eyes my lady and I have western Colorado in our thoughts. Though I can’t help but wonder if you Lord will grant me the time for my lady and I to walk and live for awhile in this old dinosaur park.

Either way these years have been a great ride with my lady and son by my side. Lord, I do have to say that through your grace you have given this old Blue Ridge Mountain boy’s heart more love and joy than I could have ever deserved. Thank you lord for giving me my bride, this sweet little Terrapin girl.

Forgivness

Tonight my wife and I were watching a taped show of Criminal Minds and like any good program should, it made me think on some issues. This program like most if not all of their programs has one of more murders in it. In tonight’s program the unsub killed ten people before he offed himself. He was in a home to kill what would have been his eleventh victim when the FBI burst into the room. This man was seeking revenge for the death of his wife ten years earlier on some of the people he felt were guilty.

Ten years, some would say this is a long time, others would say, not so. How do we put a time limit on hurt and pain when this hurt is branded into one’s heart or mind? If in our soul we continue to have hate, is there such a thing as a time limit? It has been 161 months and three days since my Mom was killed in a car accident, as you can probably tell, I have not forgotten. I could put the time down into hours and minutes, but that would serve no purpose. It took me a long time to be able to let this accident go in my heart and mind. Forgive, yes, forget, no. The young man who killed her was being immature and  reckless in his driving, but it was still and accident. I never met him for the concern that if I did I might snap his neck, I have been passed those feelings for several years now, though I do still remember his name. If he had straight out murdered her, his name would have long since been written in stone. What we can forgive is a personal thing and it varies with each of us, and we will never know until an event happens to us that brings us to our knees.

At the end of tonight’s program part of a sentence started out “forgiveness does not change the past”, and no, it doesn’t. But forgiving is something that we can all do, but different issues can vary in the time it takes our hearts to heal from the event. Forgetting, a lot of things that have happened to us in our lives will never go out of our memories and psychologist tell us that some of the bad events in our childhood we suppress trying to forget them. The following few sentences are what walked across my mind after I heard that previous quote I just gave you, and I will close this note to you with it.

Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does shine a light on our future. Either a light to brightness, life, and site, or a light of blackness toward the evil that we now choose to live in.

The End

Do I hear an Angel’s wings—am I dying

The stillness in my heat, is it still beating

So silent like the quiet of a graveyard night

Through dimmed eyes—have any tears fallen

My lungs grow weak—only silence I hear

O to see the rising sun—just one more time

Loved family here with me—in this sterile room

My will is dispensed—all my energy now gone

What in now left of me—is this death in my face

Designated, predestined we die—but sent to where

Silence only silence—broken by a trumpet I hear

Blue skies, blue skies—toward the Son I am rising

O to the earth good bye—Lord—NO

Wing’s fade away—as HELL opens it’s mouth for me

Wake up in a cold sweat—O LORD—what a dream!

Tabby My Dear

Our little fur ball so plain to the eyes

Short gray hair like allergies they fly

Beauty she lacks except for her kitten face

Her purr motor running with a smile in her eyes

Her love for the family she never tries to disguise

Pets like people who possess outer beauty

Tend to be filled with self love and lies

True love comes from within

Just like the love never hidden

In our little Tabbies eyes.

Be Careful Where You Step

My next step, Lord, where shall it be

I pray for guidance with every breath, every step

I know not lifes path that is set before my feet

Lord please be my light so that my eyes can see my feet

I wish not to wander blindly with my feet upon soft ground

For in this life of folly I have walked through many dark alleys

Fear can take hold when darkness hides the rattles that you hear

Lord please guide my conscience and keep my mind and body pure

Please guide me from the the burning pits so deep

Lord please imbed your guiding light into my heart and soul

In these my latter days I wish not to stumble into  a Demons grasp

Lord please always guide my feet, so that when I die, I can tell Satan to kiss my ass!

So-This Is Life

When I find myself in disfavor of riches and women’s smiles

I find myself alone cursing and weeping from this darkened state

My pain, my pain, why doth Heaven hide from my tear filled eyes

When looking upon my life, I curse the bloody things I’ve done

Wanting myself to be like those who never worked, yet lined with gold

Shinning like them with toes in the sand and like Tarzan beating their breasts

Why do we humans yearn this friends looks and that one’s fame

If all wishes granted, what would I enjoy the most, and what the least

When in such thoughts I find it is myself the most that I despise

Hopefully Lord I pray to Thee, rescue me Lord, for truly I hate this life

Have I spent my years like a predator, with no guarantee of next sun rising

From breathing air, to the cold grave, now hearing hymns at Heavens Gate

From this state I have lived in, Lord do I really wish to see Thy Holy Face

But then I awake and I do see the beauty of the morning sun rising

Aw but a dream, but wait, my boots to my beard, they are thoroughly singed!

Darkness The Thunder And The Light

Deep in the night as we quietly slumber in our bed

Lying peacefully in the darkness, minds filled with dreams never remembered

To a loud clap of thunder our subconscious now awake

In the darkness of our slumber we hear the thunder then see the lightning flash

Whether in sleep, or eyes wide open, does the sound of the thunder frighten

Rumblings deep and dark we hear in all the corners of our minds

The sounds can slap our souls like the clapping of God’s hands

A loud crack, then the awesome lights from the Heavens flash in

Does the lightning bring peace to your soul, or melt your heart within

Do we try to live our lives quietly in the dark, ignoring the signs of the times

Are we at peace within ourselves, with the Maker of the thunder and the light

Thunder can draw one’s attention, lightning a mighty sting, this I know first hand

August 83 evening storm moving in, bivouac in the Army, living in ignorant bliss

A finger of God reached out and touched me, my body will never let me forget

Each day we open our eyes, we think it’s up to us, foolish, it’s up to the Keeper of time

So, we can all decide to live our lives in the slumber of Spiritual darkness and denial

When this life that we now live is over, we all have a Soul, and forever it lives

Where it resides is determined by the life we now live, are we strong, or just a leaf in the wind

Spiritual darkness, thunder and lightning, global warming’s big, storms simply a warning to us all.

Smelly Oil Company

Once upon a time not  so long ago (and this is no fairytale)

I was working executive security just trying to earn that dime

Stationed at Smelly Oil Company in the town of Enron fame.

One Friday eve on the maintenance elevator I chose to ride

43 rd floor my goal, it’s the home of Presidential fame ya know

Quietly checking offices to see if all  were weekend bound.

Two male voices I hear, coming down the hall very clear

Having a conversation that no one was suppose to hear

There was a former Governor very well known as “our boy” round there

His Presidential campaign going slow, gave “our boy 3 million more today”

These the words of my boss he was bragging to his friend

At this time gas sold about 70 cents, way to low for them

Boss bragging to his buddy how Our Boy was Oval Office bound

Having one of these puppets on a string, is every oil mans dream

Bragging how that soon the whole Country they would be shagging

To the other suit Smelly Oil’s President was a bragging

That within 8 months of taking office, Our Boy would have gas $2 a gallon

Three times the current rate, for the Oil Companies, no doubt that’s great

Not caring that the whole world’s infrastructure would be drowning

To me these type of acts  toward our country is nothing short of treason

To bad these good ole boys, to realise their dream, had to wait untill 2000.

Prophet

What is a Prophet, is there really such a thing in these days that we live

Is it only something from our past that mankind has out lived

Who is it that would dare say they are such a thing

Do we believe the things of which the Scriptures have to say

If today a woman or a man says this is what they be

Are we living in Spiritual darkness, are these the last days

Are we living in a darkness that our ears cannot hear  nor our eyes see

If one stands up and speaks only God’s truth, would any of us listen

If we are living in the last days of darkness of which the Scriptures speak

What shall we do, will we know a chosen vessel of God, or will our hearts be cold

Friends, Prophets will be both men and women that God for Himself has chosen.
